Doc Brown

Doctor Emmett Lathrop “Doc” Brown, Ph.D. is a fictional character and one of the lead characters in the Back to the Future motion picture trilogy, in which he is the inventor of the first time machine, which he builds out of a DeLorean sports car. The character is memorably played by actor Christopher Lloyd in all three films, as well as in the live action sequences of the animated series. He is voiced by Dan Castellaneta in the animated series. The character’s appearance and mannerisms are loosely inspired by Leopold Stokowski and Albert Einstein.

Dr. Evil

Dr. Evil is a fictional character, played by Mike Myers in the Austin Powers film series. He is the antagonist of the movies, and Austin Powers’ nemesis with aspirations of world domination. He is a parody of any number of villains, primarily Donald Pleasance’s Ernst Stavro Blofeld of SPECTRE. Dr. Evil routinely hatches schemes to terrorize  and take over the world, and is typically accompanied by his cat Mr. Bigglesworth and his side-kick Mini-Me, a dwarf clone of himself.

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew is a Muppet from The Muppet Show, performed by Dave Goelz. He is a bald, bespectacled, lab-coated scientist who would do periodic science  segments from “Muppet Labs, where the future is being made today.” The muppet has no eyes, only completely transparent, lensless glasses. This makes him appear a very absent-minded intellectual.
Honeydew’s experiments usually cause great harm to his long-running assistant Beaker, a nearly mute Muppet with a shock of reddish hair. Honeydew worked alone in the first season of The Muppet Show, but from the second season onward, the luckless Beaker would always be present.

Professor Frink

Professor John I.Q. Nerdelbaum Frink, Jr. is a recurring character in the animated television series The Simpsons. He is voiced by Hank Azaria, and first appeared in the episode “Old Money”. He is Springfield’s 39-year-old local scientist  and college professor, and is extremely brilliant, though somewhat socially inept. Frink often tries to use his bizarre inventions to aid the town in its crises, especially during the Treehouse of Horror episodes, but they usually only make things worse.

The Ghostbusters

Three odd-ball scientists get kicked out of their cushy positions at a university in New York City where they studied the occult. They decide to set up shop in an old firehouse and become Ghostbusters, trapping pesky ghosts, spirits, haunts, and poltergeists for money. They wise-crack their way through the city, and stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, one which will release untold evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters are called on to save the Big Apple.

Bruce Almighty (2003)     $25,000,000

Bruce Almighty is a 2003 American comedy film directed by Tom Shadyac and written by Steve Koren, Mark O’Keefe and Steve Oedekerk. It stars Jim Carrey as Bruce Nolan, a down-on-his-luck TV reporter who seeks a promotion and a better life overall. After a series of bad incidents, such as being beaten while helping a homeless person, Bruce complains that God can’t do His job properly. He is surprised when he is met by God Himself and granted His powers to see if he can do a better job. Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Catherine Bell, Lisa Ann Walter, and Philip Baker Hall also star, while Tony Bennett makes a cameo appearance.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)     $20,000,000 + merchandising

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, also known as The Grinch, is a 2000 American live-action film from Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment, based on the 1957 book of the same name by Dr. Seuss. Because the film is based on a children’s picture book, many additions had to be made to the storyline to bring it up to feature-length. Most of the rhymes used in the book were used in the film, though some were slightly changed, and new rhymes were put in as well.

The Truman Show (1998)     $12,000,000

The Truman Show is a 1998 comedy-drama film directed by Peter Weir and written by Andrew Niccol. The cast includes Jim Carrey as Truman Burbank, as well as Laura Linney, Noah Emmerich, Ed Harris and Natascha McElhone. The film chronicles the life of a man who discovers he is living in a constructed reality soap opera, televised 24/7 to billions across the globe.The genesis of The Truman Show was a spec script by Niccol. The original draft was more in tone of a science fiction thriller, with the story set in New York City. Scott Rudin purchased the script, and instantly set the project up at Paramount Pictures. Brian de Palma was in contention to direct before Weir took over, managing to make the film for $60 million against the estimated $80 million budget. Niccol rewrote the script simultaneously as the filmmakers were waiting for Carrey’s schedule to open up for filming. The majority of filming took place at Seaside, Florida, a master-planned community located in the Florida Panhandle.

Liar Liar (1997)     $20,000,000

Liar Liar is a 1997 American comedy film written by Paul Guay and Stephen Mazur, directed by Tom Shadyac and starring Jim Carrey. Carrey was nominated for a Golden Globe Award (1998) for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical. The film is the second of three collaborations between Jim Carrey and Tom Shadyac, the first being Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and the third being Bruce Almighty. It is also the second of three collaborations between Paul Guay and Stephen Mazur, the first being The Little Rascals and the third being Heartbreakers. It was shot entirely in California.

Batman Forever (1995)     $5,000,000

Batman Forever is a 1995 superhero film directed by Joel Schumacher and produced by Tim Burton. It is the third installment of the Batman film series and stars Val Kilmer as Batman. The plot focuses on Batman trying to stop Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) and the Riddler (Jim Carrey) in their villainous scheme to drain information from all the brains in Gotham City. He gains alliance from psychiatrist Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman) and adopted sidekick Dick Grayson (Chris O’Donnell).The film had a change in tone compared to the previous installments, more family-friendly, since Warner Bros. considered that the previous film, Batman Returns, underperformed at the box office due to its violence. Production was troubled, with many actors considered for the main roles, and Kilmer entering in conflicts with the rest of the crew. Batman Forever was released to mixed reviews, but outgrossed Returns with over $336 million worldwide.
